TRAGEDY FEARED.
Swagman Missing.
In The Far North-west.

A man answering the description of Henry Dunn, has been reported missing between Normanton and Cloncurry.
Opinions are that he may have been drowned in attempting to cross flooded creeks or that he may have been lost on the plains when endeavouring to follow creeks until he found a crossing over the swollen streams.
The man did not appear to have much food when he passed Donor's Hill on March 29.
The report received in Cairns yesterday by Inspector F. H. McIver from Sergeant Harman, of Normanton, stated that Henry Dunn had been issued with traveller's rations at Normanton on March 10 and 17. Sergeant Harman suggested that further inquiries be made at the Cloncurry end of the trial, as it would take seven days to patrol to Donor's Hill from Normanton in the present stale of the roads.
Mrs. Edith McDougall, postmistress at Donor's Hill, had reported to the police that a man of about 50 years, slightly humped, very deaf and nearly dumb passed Donor's Hill post office on March 29 carrying a swag and making for Cloncurry. On April 14 her husband travelled along the road to Cloncurry as far as Wurung Station, 40 miles from Donor's Hill, and saw no trace of the man.

Narrative

At Donor's Hills we made a halt to thank the capable postmistress, Mrs. McDougall for many favours extended to the writer In getting long distance calls through to the Gulf, just as she always does for others. There is no more popular or courteous postal official in the Gulf; her praises are on everyone's lips. Over the 'Jump-up' we pass the old Bang-Bang racecourse on which many successful picnic meetings were held in the good old days, when visitors received a warm welcome, to the station home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Clarke.

DEAF AND DUMB SWAGMAN.

Three Weeks Missing.
CAIRNS, April 12.

For over three weeks, a deaf and dumb traveller, carrying a swag, has been missing somewhere on the road between Normanton and Cloncurry, according to a report received to-day by Inspector F. H. Mclver, officer-in-charge of the Cairns police district.

Mrs. Edith McDougall (Postmistress at Donor's Hill, 100 miles South of Normanton) told the police that a deaf and dumb man, aged about 53, had passed through on March 19, making for Cloncurry, 150 miles away. Her husband, W. F. McDougall, had travelled along the Cloncurry Road a few days later and could find no trace of the man, or any sign of tracks. Many creeks were in high flood, and it was feared he had become lost, or had been drowned.

The Normanton police say that from his description the man is named Henry Dunn, who was issued with travellers' rations on March 10 and 17. In view of the flooded state of the country, it would take a week to patrol even as far as Donor's Hill.

MISSING MAN LOCATED.
Senior Sergeant Sproule, who is at present in charge of the Cloncurry Police district, informs us that the man Henry Dunn, who was reported missing between Donors Hill and Cowan Downs, was located on Monday last, April 10th.
Constable Denny and a black tracker had been sent out from Cloncurry and they followed the tracks of the missing man and finally located him about six miles on the Cloncurry side of Boomarra Station. Dunn, who is a middle-aged man was little the worse for his experience which is mainly accounted for by the fact that surface water was plentiful. Dunn passed Donors Hill on March 28th and it was feared when he did not arrive at Cowan Downs that he may have been drowned in some, of the creeks which were in flood. Dunn told Constable Denny, when found that he had been following the telegraph line.
Senior Sergeant Sproule states that there has been no trace of Nugget Bell who walked away from the hospital early in October last year.
Bell, had been employed on Maronan selection before he entered the hospital. He was traced as far as Kaampa Siding by the police and it was thought he might have boarded a train for the coast.
