MRS. ESTHER MUIR

Another link with the pioneering days was broken on July 2, when Mrs. Esther Muir passed away at Pittsworth, at the age of 89 years. The late Mrs. Muir was born in County Armagh (Ireland), and sailed to Australia with her parents, the late Thomas and Margaret Black, together with their brothers and two sisters, in the sailing ship ''John Farley," landing in Moreton Bay in 1852. The family travelled by builock dray to Goomburra station, then owned by Leslie Bros., and stayed there for several years. (Later they moved to "Westbrook station, near Toowoomba, where she married a young Scot, Archibald Muir. The couple then moved to Felton station, then owned by Whitechurch and Sanderman, where Mr. Muir was employed as sheep overseer.

Her husband died 59 years ago, and Mrs. Muir removed to Allora, where she lived for many years. Some five years ago Mrs. Muir fractured her thigh, but the accident had no after-effects. The deceased lady was predeceased by a daughter, Mrs. Marshall, and one son, John, and leaves to mourn her Ioss one daughter, Mrs. J. J. Daniel, Pittsworth, two sons, Archibald (Mareeba, North Queensland), and Thomas (Allora); also a large number of grand-children and great grand-children

BLACK.—In loving remembrance of our dear departed husband and father, Kingsborough Black (late station-master Killarney), who departed this life 6th January, 1903.
The loving face is now laid low,
The fond true heart is still,
The hand so often clasped in mine
Lies low in death's dark chill.
