An early resident of Townsville in Mr. Thomas William Pearce, passed away at the General Hospital on December 9. Born in Hansworth, Warwickshire, England, on February 11, 1872, Mr. Pearce came to Australia as a child, taking up residence in Townsville in his seventh year. He received his early education at the Townsville Central State school, and Dr. Tonatis' Grammar School, completing his education at the Brisbane Normal School. Returning to Townsville, he was apprenticed to Messrs Rooneys Ltd, as a carpenter and joiner, later joining the firm of Thomas Page and Sons, with whom he was associated for 20 years. At the time of his demise, he was employed by W. J. Heatley and Sons. Ltd. In his early life, the deceased was keenly interested in band music, and was a member of one of Townsville's original brass bands, which was formed by Mr. Tom Page, later joining the Life Boat band, A.N.A. Band, and Fire Brigade Band. During his early career, he was a member of the old voluntary garrison artillery, also the naval Brigade. His love for music also found him a prominent member of the Amateur Minstrel show under the chairmanship of Mr. A. Carroll. Mr. Pearce was also associated with the P.A.F.S.O.A. Lodge for 38 years, whilst he was a member of the Masonic Lodge tor 14 years. In 1897, the deceased was married to Henrietta Alberta Myers of Ravenswood. One son and two daughters of the deceased survive him. Mr. Frederick T. Pearce, Mrs. F. R. Clarke and Mrs. N. NcKee, of Townsville, also three sisters and one brother, Mesdames W. Cummins, L. Casey, T. Shiels and Mr. W. H. Pearce. During his life, Mr. Pearce held an everlasting and sincere friendship of 51 years with Mr. W Dearness, a well known and highly respected citizen.
