News was received on Saturday of the sudden death of Mr. Alpin G. Cameron, who was for very many years identified with pastoral pursuits in the Burnett district, as owner of Culeraigie station. Mr. Cameron latterly resided in Cooktown where he held a responsible official position. He enjoyed the best of health until the day of his death, when aneurism of file heart terminated his existance. Mr Alpin Cameron, at present acting manager of the Maryborough branch of the Bank of N.S.W., is a son of the deceased gentleman and is accorded much local sympathy in his bereavement.

To a large section of our readers the announcement of the death of Mr. Alpin Grant Cameron, which appeared in yesterday's issue, will have been read with sincere regret. He was one of the few remaining links between the past and present. Mr. Cameron came to the " Moreton Bay district" early in the forties, in company with Mr. David Archer, and was long, well, and favourably known in the Upper Brisbane and Burnett districts, as may be guessed by the soubriquet, "Honest Alpin," by which he was generally known. He managed for some time the Kilcoy and Cressbrook stations. He afterwards joined Mr. Archie Cameron in Coonambula and Culcraigie runs in Burnett district. Mr. Alpin Cameron stuck to the latter until the fatal wet season of 1867 brought him, as it did many others, to grief. In 1874 he was appointed Inspector of Sheep and Brands at Cooktown, which office he held until his death. The respect in which he was held here may be gathered from the fact that all the flags in town and in the harbour were hoisted half mast on the announcement of his death. He leaves a widow, a son, and two daughters, one of the latter being married to Mr. Halloran, Bank of New South Wales, Townsville.
