We learn that, on Friday afternoon last, Mr. Reuben Dear, a selector residing at Sandy Creek, on the Mount Brisbane Homestead Area, was accidentally killed by a falling tree. He was working alone at the time, but, so far as can be gathered from the surrounding circumstances, it seems that he had been felling a tree, which, instead of coming down, lodged in the fork of another. The unfortunate man appears to have cut the second tree, but while running out of the way, he must have fallen over a log, and a portion of the descending timber apparently struck him heavily, and killed him on the spot. The body was very much injured, and neck, skull, chest, and legs were broken. Senior-Constable Woodcraft, who happened to be in the vicinity, inspected the body, and obtained an order for its burial from Mr. G. M. Challinor, J.P., before whom an inquiry was to be held.

The death-roll of old colonists is gradually becoming longer. Yesterday Mr. Alexander Forbes passed away at the age of nearly four score years and ten. He was born in the year of Waterloo, 1815, near Wick, in the north of Scotland, where, on coming to manhood's estate, he followed farming pursuits. In 1862 he came to Queensland, where he became a grazier on the Upper Brisbane River. Afterwards he took up land at Peak Mountain, and was growing cotton there for some-years, but when the bonus was taken off and that became an unprofitable occupation he returned to the Brisbane River and took to stock-raising and dairying near Mount Brisbane. On the death of his wife, which happened about two years ago, he retired from this avocation and came to live with his daughter, Mrs. J. Houston, at Flinders. He has enjoyed robust health throughout his life till just recently, when his heart became affected and failure of that organ was the cause of his demise, which occurred suddenly yesterday morning at 9 o'clock. The deceased leaves a family of four - Mr. D. G. Forbes, locomotive foreman at Woolloongabba; and Mesdames R. T. Darker, Joseph Stafford, and J. Houston - besides about 30 grandchildren and one great-grand-child. The remains of deceased are to be interred besides his wife in the Esk Cemetery this evening, and for that purpose the body will be brought by train from Flinders this morning and taken on to Esk this afternoon.

FAGAN.-In sad but loving memory of our dear mother, who passed away at the Mater Misericordiae Private Hospital, on the 15th July, 1914.
All is dark within our dwelling,
Still lonely are our hearts to-day;
For the one we loved so dearly
Has for ever passed away.
Far and oft our thoughts do wander,
To a grave not far away,
Where we laid our darling mother
Just twelve months ago to-day.
