DEATH OF MR JOHN THORN.
Another old resident, in the person of Mr. John Thorn, passed away yesterday. The deceased gentleman was closely identified with the development of Queensland, and particularly with the West Moreton district, as indeed all the Thorns have been. Mr. John Thorn died at the Brisbane Hospital from dropsy and heart disease, having been recently removed to that institution for special treatment, on the advice of the medical men attending him. He was the fourth son of the late Mr. George Thorn, of Claremont, Ipswich, which place the Thorns may be said to have established. The deceased was for some years engaged in railway contracting, as senior partner of Messrs. J. T. Annear and Co. He was also identified for some period with pastoral pursuits, and took a keen interest in politics, he having represented Fassifern during the term of the Macalister Ministry. Mr. Thorn was a brother of the Hon. George Thorn, the present memlber for Fassifern, and of Mrs. George Harris, of this city. He leaves a widow and seven children—five sons and two daughters. The funeral is advertised to leave his late residence, Woodville, Highgate Hill, South Brisbane, at 2.30 this afternoon.
