Our readers will regret to learn of the death of Mr. William Hall, which event took place at the residence of his brother-in-law, Mr. G. Alexander, of Danderoo, yesterday morning. The late Mr. Hall was widely known in this district, being a brother to Mrs. Affleck (Westhall), Mrs. Jas. McAra (Scotland), and Messrs. G. Hall (Brisbane), Thos. Hall (Danderoo) and Alex. Hall (Emu Vale). Deceased, who was 55 years of age, was born in Banffshire, and came to Queensland in '53. The Hall family came direct to the Downs, where they settled. Mr. William Hall with his brother George some years later proceeded to Bowen, where they opened a sawmilling business. Deceased was also associated with similar ventures at Allora and Emu Vale. About ten years ago deceased started business in Brisbane as a produce merchant, and later joined the firm of Waugh and Josephson. He was the first man to bring up and work a reaper and binder on the Downs, the machine being an old Woods wire binder. He was also the first to drive a traction engine over the range to the Downs. Deceased had been ill for some time with heart trouble, and it was feared his end was not far distant when he recently returned to this district. His widow and family reside in Brisbane. The funeral is timed to leave the Masonic Hall, Guy-street, at 2.30 this afternoon

The death occurred, at his brother's residence at Warwick, on Friday morning, of Mr. William Hall, one of Queensland's old identities and, for many years of late, traveller for Messrs. Waugh and Josephson, of Edward street, Brisbane. Some three months ago, Mr. Hall suffered severely from heart trouble, brought on through lifting some heavy machinery, and eventually he was compelled to leave Brisbane and seek a change and rest at his brother's residence in Warwick, but unfortunately such injury had resulted to the glands of the heart that there was no hope held out, and death occurred that morning as already indicated.
The deceased was a well known figure in bowling and Masonic circles. Formerly he was engaged in an extensive way in the sawmilling trade, at Emu Vale, and he also spent a considerable time in Bowen. In bowling circles, he succeeded in reaching champion ship honours, and in Warwick, where he spent many years, he was exceedingly well known and highly respected. He was a native of Banffshire, in Scotland, and spent over 40 years of his life in Queensland, being at the time of his death just on 60 years of age. The deceased, who resided in Phillip street, Spring Hill, leaves a widow and six children to mourn his loss. His eldest son, Mr Thomas Hail, holds a responsible position in Messrs. W. J. Overell and Sons, Fortitude Valley, and two others, Messrs. Douglas and George Hall, are employed by Messrs. Waugh and Josephson. There are three unmarried daughters in the family, all of whom reside with their mother on Spring Hill.
