Mr. Thomas Hall, of Warwick, was leading his horse in a paddock, when he Collapsed, and died without regaining consciousness. Three hours later, his niece, Mrs. J. A. Stewart, collapsed, and died at the telephone, while communicating with a relative.

A VERY painful accident occurred to Mr. Peter Affleck, of Westhall, on the Lucky Valley road, on Monday morning last. It appears that Mr. Affleck had been out with Mr. Cutmore at the farm of the latter. On Monday morning they were on their way into town in Mr. Cutmore's buggy, when Mr. Affleck fell from his seat over the side of the vehicle. He was picked up very much hurt, and conveyed to the Lucky Valley School-house. Dr. Phillips was at once summoned, and on arrival he found Mr. Affleck suffering from paralysis of the left side, and in a very weak condition. The doctor considers the case a very serious one, and is not certain whether paralysis set in antecedent or subsequent to the fall.

OBITUARY.

Mr. C. J. Gwyther.

The death of Mr. Charles Julian Gwyther, late head teacher of the State School at Wilsonton, Toowoomba, took place suddenly early on Tuesday morning at the residence of his brother-in-law in Brisbane. The late Mr. Gwyther went to Brisbane to attend the Exhibition, in which, he took a keen interest. He spent Monday at Bowen Park, and retired to bed apparently in his usual health, but passed away at 1.30 a.m. The late Mr. Gwyther was born at Whittigon, Shropshire, England, 64 years ago, and came with his parents to Queensland in the sailing ship St. James in 1874, at the age of 5 years. Entering the service of the Education Department as a pupil teacher at Swan Creek, he was later appointed to the charge of a provisional school at Gladstone. He also served at Jimbour, Tallebudgera, Mount Beppo, and Bunker's Hill. Seventeen years ago he was appointed to Wilsonton, and remained there until his death. Keenly interested in botany, the late Mr. Gwyther was successful in discovering many new and rare plants. A widow and family survive him. As a tribute to his memory the mem- bers of the school committee journeyed to Brisbane, and acted as pall bearers at the funeral, which took place to the Toowoomba cemetery on Wednesday.
