WHITNEY.-On the 25th June, at Engelsburg, William Whitney, sen., after a short illness, passed peacefully away at the ripe age of 87 years. "So he giveth his beloved sleep."

MRS. G. H. WHITNEY
Death At Kingaroy
A wide circle of friends and many early residents of Kingaroy received a shock when it became known that Mrs. Joan Elizabeth Whitney, wife of Mr. G. H. Whitney, had passed away.
Mrs. Whitney was the eldest daughter of Mrs. A. G. Alcorn (Kingaroy), and the late Mr. David Alcorn, Boonah, and was born at Roadvale in the Fassifern district fifty-three years ago. In 1904 she was married to Mr. Whitney and lived for some time at Kalbar. In 1906 Mr. and Mrs. Whitney went to Kingaroy. They subsequently resided at Biggenden, but returned to Kingaroy six years ago, when Mrs. Whitney provided a long-felt need by opening a hostel for children attending the State High School.
Mrs. Whitney is survived by her husband and family of four daughters and four sons. They are Mesdames Brandon, wife of Rev. O. Brandon (Home Hill), G. Nielsen (Bowen), Misses Dorothy and Nancy Whitney (Kingaroy); Rev. G. D. Whitney (Presbyterian Church, Innisfail), Messrs. H. J. (State School, Jambin), D. A. (Townsville), and D. J. Whitney (Kingaroy). A sister (Mrs. Douglas Smith) died about five years ago.
She is survived also by her mother, three sisters, and four brothers. The sisters are Mesdames D. Smallbone and V. Connor (Kingaroy), P. Leivesley (Rockhampton), and the brothers, Messrs. Wllllnm (Boonah), George (Nambour), David (Tingalba), and Douglas (Morningside).
