Sitting in Chambers in the Supreme Court in matrimonial jurisdiction on Friday morning, Mr. Justice R. J. Douglas granted a judgment absolute in the case in which Andrewinna Hourston, of The Strand, Townsville, is seeking the dissolution of her marriage with Arthur David Church Hourston, of Babinda, on the grounds of desertion. The decree nisi was granted on April 20, 1943. His Honor awarded costs against the defendant:

A very pretty military wedding took place at Bundaberg on December 26th. The contracting parties were Sergeant William Henry McCullough (late A.I. F.), and Miss Linda Muriel Haskins, of Dulwich Hill, Sydney, New South Wales. Sergeant McCullough, who enlisted from North Queensland, is the eldest son of Mrs. W. E. Kiernan, at present of West Bundaberg, but recently of Kidston, North Queensland.

The death occurred at Toowoomba last Friday, of Mrs. Kate Butterfield, a very old identity in the Ipswich district. The funeral took place last Saturday. Deceased had attained the great age of 88 years. She had been in Toowoomba about nine weeks, having gone to that city from Ipswich, to stay with her son --- Mr. Chas Butterfield. Deceased lived in Ipswich with her son, and subsequently with her grandson --- Mr. J. Butterfield, North Ipswich --- for 15 years prior to her death, and she was a very old identity in the district. About 65 years years ago she came to Booval, and her husband worked in the old boiling-down works. She afterwards lived at Blacksoil, and in the Esk district. Deceased leaves five sons and two daughters, numerous grandchildren, and some great-grandchildren. Her sons are --- Messrs. Henry Butterfield (Karrabin), John Butterfield (Coominya), Chris. Butterfield (Blacksoil), Chas. Butterfield (Toowoomba), and James Butterfield (Wombyn). The daughters are Mesdames S. Dobe (Brisbane), and A. Dagan (Mxxxxall), Western Queensland also.

Michael DOBE
The death occurred at the Babinda Hospital on Tuesday, April 29, of a well-known and highly respected Babinda citi- zen, Antonio Vardanega. De- ceased was 66 years of age and had lived in Australia for 39 years. Born in Venice, Italy, he was one of the first men employed by the Babinda mill at its opening, and remained there until his recent death.
He is survived by his widow, five children, Mrs. A. McCul- lough (Brisbane), Mrs. L. Ring (Innisfail), Mr. V. Vardanega (Babinda), Mrs. J. Pyne (Bab- inda), and Captain H. Vardan- ega (Sydney), also six grand- children.
