COOK.-In loving memory of our dear father and grandfather, William Thomas Cook, who departed this life, 13th October, 1918.
We are thinking of you, dear father,
We are thinking of the past,
We are picturing you in memory,
Just as we saw you last.
Sunshine passes, shadows fall,
Love and remembrance outlast all.
(Inserted by his loving daughter and son-in-law, Jane and James Gunthorpe, and family.)
COOK.-In sad but loving memory of my dear husband and our father, William Thomas Cook, who was called home to rest on 13th October, 1918.
On earth there's strife, in Heaven rest,
They miss you most who loved you best,
The thought drops many a silent tear,
For he who's gone was truly dear.
Lips we've kissed are faded and cold,
The hands that worked for us are covered with mould,
The husband I loved is missing to-day,
Gone is our dear daddy, faded away.
(Ever remembered by his sorrowing wife and daughters, Eva, Irene, and Mavis.)

CHARTERS TOWERS, May 6.- An old age pensioner, Charles Gunthorpe, aged about 70, died late on Sunday afternoon on the property of his brother-in-law, Charles Archer, at the Six Mile, on the Hughenden Road, where he had resided for many years. Earlier a police officer had gone out to me properly in consequence of a report that the old man was ill and refused medical attention. The ambulance was later requested to bring him to hospital, but the bearer on arrival found Gunthorpe dead. The dead man was a bachelor, and was formerly a teamster.

A link with early Charters Towers was severed with the passing of Mr. Richard Gunthorpe during the week. Born at Oxford 70 years ago, he came to Queensland with his parents in his early youth, and had spent the greater portion of his life here. Fifty years ago "Pop", as he was affectionately known to his lifelong friends, was the possessor of a rich tenor voice and became associated with Leidertafei and Curlew choirs of long ago. He was one of the early members of the M.U.I.O. O.F., and active in the development of industrial unionism, and his practical knowledge of all phases of mining was well known. His hobby and pastimes were centred in cricket and a good garden with the production of exotic blooms, well remembered for their beauty by a generation fast fading away. For the past ten years "Pop" had been living in quiet retirement in the midst of his family his failing health in no way impairing his indomitable spirit and deep and abiding interest in the welfare of those less fortunate than himself. He is survived by his wife and grown family.
