73rd BIRTHDAY PARTY
Mrs. Harriet Gunthorpe celebrated her 73rd birthday on Wednesday, and her children and grandchildren entertained her at Thorncliff, her home in Oxley Road, Corinda. Mrs. Gunthorpe was born in Chappel Town, Yorkshire, England, and with her husband and their two eldest children arrived in Brisbane 52 years ago. Mr. William Gunthorpe secured employment at the Petrie brick works at Lutwyche, later going to the Dinmore works. With his younger brother, Mr. Robert Gunthorpe, he then established brick works at Bundamba, where he remained till his death 44 years ago. Later Mrs. Gunthorpe was married to Mr. Robert Gunthorpe, who although now over 70 years of age is still engaged in the brick-maklng trade. For the last 25 years, Mrs. Gunthorpe has made her home in Corinda. She has reared a family of five sons and six daughters, and now has 38 grandchildren and 15 greatgrandchildren, all of whom were present at the party, at which the gruests numbered seventy-five. Supper was served in a large marquee on the lawn, which was decorated with bells and horseshoes in lemon and pink tonings. The central decoration was an iced birthday cake, the gift of the youngest daughter (Mrs. E. Siegman). Mr. Wm. Gunthorpe, of Oxley (eldest son) presided, and Mr. Jack Welfare (grandson), also spoke.

Mrs. H. Gunthorpe. - The death of Mrs. Harriet Gunthorpe, of Oxley Road, Corinda, occurred on Friday afternoon after a long illness. She was born at Chappel Town, Yorkshire, England, 74 years ago, and leaves 66 direct descendants. With her first husband, the late Mr. William Gunthorpe, and their two eldest children she arrived in Queensland 53 years ago. Mr. Gunthorpe secured employ ment at the Petrie brickworks, at Lutwyche, later going to the Dinmore works. With his younger brother, Robert, he established brick works at Bundamba, where he remained till his death in 1891. Subsequently Mrs. Gunthorpe was married to Mr. Robert Gunthorpe. For the last 26 years Mrs. Gunthorpe has lived at Oxley Road, Corinda. She is survived by her husband and a family of five sons and six daughters. The sons are Messrs. W., A., R., and J. Gunthorpe (Oxley), and H. Gunthorpe (Corinda); Mes dames W. Cooney (Ipswich), D. Price (Oxley), W. Bauer, and H. Elcoate (Darra), and E. Welfare and W. Siegman (Corinda) are the daughters. The funeral took place to the South Brisbane cemetery. Captain Lucas, of the Toowong Salvation Army Corps, officiated at the graveside.
