DEATH OF MRS. S. PERRETT. There passed sway at Flinders, about midday on Friday last, a very old and respected resident of the district in the person Mrs. Perrett, relict of the late Mr. Sealy Parrett, who predeceased his wife by about three years. Death was due to a general break-up of the system consequent upon old age. The deceased had attained the ripe age of 79 years, and had resided in the Flinders district for the last 33 years. She came to Australia 49 years ago, and, on arrival, took up her residence in Ipswich, where she remained for some years, subsequently removing to Flinders. She leaves one daughter - Mrs. C. Walton, of Roesvale, and two sons - Mesers. Harry and William Perrett, both of the Flinders district--to mourn their loss and much sympathy has been expressed for them in their bereavement. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon and was largely attended.
DEATH OF MRS. S. PERRETT. (1902, January 28). Queensland Times, Ipswich Herald and General Advertiser (Qld. : 1861 - 1908), p. 4. Link to TROVE
A sad accident attended with fatal consequences occurred on January 20, at a locality known as Fig-tree Gully, on the Ipswich reserve. Two little boys, one about five years old, and the other a year or two older, sons of Mr. Perrett, a farmer, were put together on a horse in the paddock to drive another one into the stock-yard. The father and his partner, named Toms, waited a short time for the boys to return, the paddock being comparatively a small one, and they being in a hurry for the horse, which they required to use. At length one of them went in search of the boys but could not at first find them anywhere, but at lenght descried the horse on which they were riding lying on his back in a sort of dry watercourse, with one child entangled between his legs, almost suffocated, whilst the other, the youngest, was nowhere to be seen. After extricating the still-living child, and calling for assistance, he ascertained from the poor little fellow that his brother was under the horse, and must be quite dead. With the aid of a team of bullocks the horse was extricated, and the remains of the unfortunate child recovered. It is supposed that the horse must have slipped into the watercourse, the ground being loose bordering it. The cause of death being so apparent, it has been considered unnecessary to hold an official inquiry.
