Winstone — Noakes
On November 29, a wedding of interest, uniting two well-known families of the Maryborough and Isis districts, was quietly solemnised at the Holy Trinity Church, Valley Brisbane (Canon Watkins officiating), when Erica Florence, second daughter of Mr. E. P. Noakes and the late Mrs. F. M. Noakes, of 'Buibi,' Childers, was married to Aircraftman Eric C. Winstone, second son of Mrs. E. C. Winstone and the late Mr. A. W. Winstone, of Pallas-street, Maryborough. A charming frock of jacaranda blue, with white accessories, was worn by the bride. A reception later held in their honour at the Hotel Canberra.

CUT WIFE'S THROAT, THEN HIS OWN
BRISBANE, January 8. Hans Andrew Beiers, 73, retired school teacher, was found dying on his bed with his wife, Frances Kate Beiers, 75, dead beside him in their Picnic Point holiday home at Maroochydore early today.
According to the police the man first cut his wife's throat and then his own with a razor, which he still clutched in his hand when the tragedy was discovered.
The police were told that about 4.30 a.m. the dead couple's daughter and her husband, Mr and Mrs E. French, who were holidaying at the home, heard a noise in Beiers' bedroom. They investigated and found Beiers dying and his wife apparently dead. The doctor was summoned, but Beiers died as the doctor was examining him.
The police say that Beiers had been suffering from insomnia for some time and was very upset over his wife's ill health.
Mrs Beiers had been suffering from heart trouble and had recently been in hospital.

LEWIS.— In sad but loving memory of my dear wife and mother, Eva Jane Lewis, who departed this life, December 3rd, 1905.
We saw her suffering day by day, '
It caused us bitter grief,
To see her slowly pine away.
And could not give relief
Not dead to us, we loved her dear,
Not lost, but gone before,
She lives with us in memory still,
And will, for evermore.
Inserted by her sorrowing husband, David H. Lewis, and children.

THE funeral of the late Marion Gorton Ridgway, dearly beloved wife of Samuel Baron Ridgway, of Marian, and beloved mother of Janet, Bill, Gwen, Rhonda, and Bob Ridgway; beloved daughter of Mrs. M. E. Cameron, of Marian, and beloved sister of Glen, Allan and Lindsay Cameron, will move from Holy Trinity Church, Gordon Street, to Mackay Cemetery, this day at 4 p.m.
The funeral service will commence at 3.50 p.m. Friends will please accept this intimation and invitation.
Family Notices (1953, January 27). Daily Mercury (Mackay, Qld. : 1906 - 1954), , p. 10. Link to TROVE
A WOMAN was killed when the utility she was driving crashed 25 feet into a raging creek from a washed out bridge one and a half miles south of Marian on the Bruce Highway at nine p.m. last night.
She was Mrs. Marion Gorton Ridgway, wife of Mr. Samuel Baron Ridgway, butcher, of Marian.
Her body, trapped in the badly damaged truck, was recovered at midnight. Police used a bulldozer to release the vehicle from an old bridge before the body could be extricated.
Warning was in vain
Police said a motorist travelling from Mackay towards Marian stopped when he realised the bridge was down. He saw the doomed vehicle approaching to the 20ft. gap in the road and tried frantically to wave it to a stop.
The vehicle slowed but disappeared into the raging waters of Dingle Creek. He saw it turning over and over with its lights still a blaze underneath the water. It came to rest about 50 yards away, jammed upside down against the broken bridge on a ledge of the surging Pioneer River. When police arrived on the scene the tail light of the car was still visible beneath the water. The body of Mrs. Ridgway was still trapped inside.
Bulldozer brought in
After attempts to release the body by diving proved unsuccessful, a bulldozer was borrowed from a farmer about a mile away. The bulldozer dragged the car free of the rushing water and the body was recovered. An undertaker was called immediately. Police last night waited in cars on both sides of the precipice left by the washaway. Contact was being made with the Main Roads Department to have action taken as soon as possible, so that traffic could use the road. Meanwhile cars were being turned back.
Rain hindered recovery
Sub-Inspector J. Cronau and Senior Sergeant C. B. McNaught, about eight policemen and four farmers helped in the recovery in pouring rain which fell continuously. Police turned back six cars on each side of the gap last night.
Police said that Mrs. Ridgway was requested by her husband to drive into Homebush to pick him up.
Mr. Ridgway had gone to Homebush earlier with stock and, having delivered them, he had asked his wife to drive in and bring him back on account of the wet weather.

NEIL.—On the 23rd April, at the Ipswich Hospital, Jane Neil, of Redbank, aged 59 years.
Dark shadows have fallen across our home,
For our loved ones passed away ;
Both mother and brother have gone from earth
To the land of endless day.
For them it is well ; yet with us remains
A sense of loss and of pain ;
But our faith is strong and our hopes undimmed—
In heaven we shall meet again.
