Mr. William Arthur Dean, chairman of the State Wheat Board, died suddenly at his home in Toowoomba on Friday after returning from a business trip to Brisbane.
The late Mr. Dean, who was born in Warwick 65 years ago, had a lifelong association with the Queensland wheat industry and was familiar with all its aspects—growing, marketing and milling.
As a young man he joined the staff of the Allora branch of G. and P. Barnes & Co., general merchants and flour millers, later becoming manager of the head office, Warwick, and a director.
The late Mr. Dean owned a wheat farm in Clifton district. In 1938 he was elected chairman of the State Wheat Board, a position he filled with credit until his death.
The late Mr. Dean is survived by his widow and two daughters, Misses H. Dean (Rockhampton) and M. Dean (Warwick).

A wedding which created considerable interest amongst a large circle of friends in the Allora district was celebrated at the Allora Methodist Church on January 1, at 10 a.m. The bridegroom was Rev. A. E. Lapthorne (Padre), Methodist minister at Gympie, and the bride was Miss Alice Dean (eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Dean, Thornbury, Allora). Rev. J. H. Garret was the officiating clergyman. As the bride entered the church with her father, the choir sang "The Voice that Breathed O'er Eden," and while the register was being signed the congregation sang the hymn, "O, Perfect Love," and Mrs. G. Atwell (sister of the bride) rendered "A Song of Thanksgiving." Miss G. Hardwick (Girls' Grammar School, Ipswich) presided at the organ. The church had been very artistically decorated by friends of the bride.
The bride wore a graceful gown of ivory morocain, tho bodice being arranged with hand-embroidery and the skirt with accordeon-pleated panels. The veil was worn with a coronet of orange blossoms, and the bridal bouquet was composed of white dahlias, carnations and silver tissue roses. The chief bridesmaid, Miss Aleathea Dearson (Sydney), wore a frock of apricot georgelte trimmed with cream guipure and a black Nelly Kelly hat finished on the side with apricot poppies. She carried a shower bouquet of blue delphiniums and apricot dahlias and maidenhair fern. The Misses Hazel and Beryl Atwell (Toowoomba), nieces of the bride, acted as maids of honour. They wore frocks in pastel shades of crepe de Chine prettily trimmed with frills edged with valenciennes lace, and they carried baskets of pink dahlias and blue agapanthus. The bouquets were the gifts of G. Williams (Warwick).
At the conclusion of the ceremony about 90 guests were entertained at a wedding breakfast at the Central Hall.
Among the many gifts was a silver teaservice on an oak tray from the members and friends of the Allora Methodist Church, of which the bride was the organist.
On leaving for Tweed Heads, where the honeymoon is being spent, the bride wore a travelling frock of nigger brown and Oriental morocain with small nigger brown and mastic hat, relieved with brightly coloured flowers.
