DEATH OF A PIONEER
Another link with the past was severed yesterday by the death of one of the city's earliest pioneers, Mr Frederick Hinsch, in his 80th year.
The deceased gentleman had spent 72 years of his life in Australasia, he having resided in New Zealand for a short period prior to coming to Victoria and later to Queensland. The late Mr Hinsch was a native of London, and made the voyage out from England in one of the sailing ships of the earlier times.
On his arrival in Maryborough sixty years ago, he engaged in work as a shipwright, and was responsible for the construction of a number of the ferries which were utilised as cross-river communication at various points in the town reach and in the district. He also undertook building constrution, and erected the Invicta sugar mill, as well as the old Methodist Church, which stood at the corner of March and Alice streets for many years.
He retired from active employment about twenty years ago, and had lived quietly with his family in Maryborough ever since.
He is survived by his widow, two sons and two daughters, viz., Messrs Henry Joseph Hinsch (Gayndah), and Fred William (Maryborough), Misses Edith Hinsch (Gayndah) and Eliza Jane Hinsch (Maryborough), besides two brothers - Messrs William (Maryborough) and John (Cairns), and one sister, Mrs Gilbert (Adelaide). The funeral will move from St Paul's Church of England this afternoon at 2.30 o'clock.
