MRS J. G. DONAGHEY.
ROCKHAMPTON, February 2.
The sudden death of Mrs Edith May Donaghey, wife of Mr J. G. Donaghey, of 66 Archer Street, on Friday last occasioned widespread grief to a large number of friends, including members of Campbell Street Methodist Church, members and associates of the Rockhampton Bowling Club, members of the Athelstane Masonic Lodge, and of the Loyal Livingstone (I.O.O.F.). Though Mrs Donaghey's health had been indifferent for the past two years there was apparently no cause for alarm and the sudden happening, due to a heart seizure, was totally unexpected by relatives and friends.
Mrs Donaghey was born at Branyan, near Bundaberg, 53 years ago, her parents being the late Mr and Mrs Walter Cooper. She came to Rockhampton in 1910 and at once associated herself with the Campbell Street Methodist Church. For a period she sang in the choir, but found her true sphere of service in the Women's Church Help Society, of which for the past 12 years she had been the indefatigable and devoted secretary. She was an ardent lover of bowls and was a member of the associates' committee of the R.B.C. She was married in April, 1914, to Mr J. G. Donaghey, who, with his daughter, Miss Vera Donaghey, mourns their loss.
The funeral cortege, which moved from her late residence, 66 Archer Street to the North Rockhampton cemetery after a service conducted by the Rev. E. J. Taylor, was representative of almost all sections of the community.
The pallbearers at the home were Messrs Frank Cooper, Harry Cooper (brothers), J. Wilson, A. T. Wood, J. H. Davis and W. Dinsdale, and at the cemetery Messrs R. H. Standish, G. F. Bromhall, R. Cruikshank, P. Donaghey, R. Yates, and L. Cooper (nephew ).
Many messages of condolence, including telegrams and cards, were received from distant and local relatives and friends.
