A Mother's Self-sacrifice.
A sad drowning accident occurred at Kholo on Boxing Dav (writes our Ipswich correspondent). Mr. William Little, accompanied by his wife (Margaret Little) and family, went to Kholo for a picnic. The boys went in for a swim, and one of them, a lad of about 12 years, was swimming in deep water, when he made a noise. His mother, who was close by, thought the lad was in danger, and she rushed into the water, fully dressed, to try and save him. Mrs. Little, however got beyond her depth and immediately sank. Some people who had watched the occurrence rushed to her assistance, and in a very short time the body was recovered. Meanwhile the Ambulance Brigade and a doctor had been sent for, and they speedily arrived, but notwithstanding all their efforts they were unable to restore animation. The funeral took place on, Sunday afternoon, and was largely attended, much sympathy being expressed for the bereaved family.

LATE MR. AMOS WYETH.
Mr. Amos Wyeth, one of the oldest residents of Toowoomba, died on Wednesday. Residents of Toowoomba of ten to twenty years ago will remember Mr Wyeth, who was then a prominent citizen, but illness necessitated his retirement. Of late years he was confined to bed and for the last two years has been totally blind. Mr. Amos Wyeth arrived in Toowoomba when 14 years of age in the year 1864, landing in Brisbane from the ship Warren Hastings. He was accompanied by his parents and his brother, Mr. Caleb Wyeth, and sister (Mrs. Dean, present Mayoress of Allora). He worked with his father (who was a prominent contractor in Toowoomba) for some years, one of the substantial buildings erected by them being Mr. E. W. Robinson's residence in Campbell-street. He later joined the Railway Department and acted as chief carpenter in the Toowoomba yards. The first indication of his approaching affliction necessitated his retirement from the department and he joined the Post Office where he remained for some years, until he was compelled to retire into private life. Later he became a complete cripple, an affliction of the spine rendering him helpless. He bore his affliction with remarkable fortitude, having also to bear with the affliction in late years of an invalided wife. He leaves a wife and three daughters, the latter (together with Mr. and Mrs. Caleb Wyeth) having cared for both him and the invalided mother with a loving tenderness that does them infinite credit. A large number of prominent citizens attended the funeral cortege to the Toowoomba cemetery, the Rev. Dingle officiating, the Rechabite service (deceased having been a life-long member of the Order) being read by the Rev. C. J. W. Moon. The relatives desire to express their thanks to Dr Alex Horn for years of unremitting gratuitious attention to both deceased and Mrs. Wyeth.
