Francis Jeremiah Sweeney, a theatre orderly at the hospital, stated that he had sterilised the blunt and sharp instruments used in the operation. He was not supervised while doing that particular job, added Sweeney, because he was regarded as a trained nurse, and would carry out his job efficiently and thoroughly.
