HERBERTON.
February 28.
Two slight shocks of earthquake were felt here on Thursday night, 27th instant. An attractive programme has been issued of sports to be held on St. Patrick's Day. Prizes to the value of £30 are promised. An alleged leper has been arrested at the Barron, and sent to Cairns to await conclusive medical examination. Snakes have been unpleasantly plentiful this year. Three adders and several snakes were killed just outside the town. A boy named Othello Barratt was bitten by a brown snake at Nigger Creek on the 23rd instant, but fortunately without fatal results. The Irvinebank School of Arts has presented a gold medallion and the life membership of the institution to Mr. W. H. Rawlings, the member for Woothakata.
Mr. Othello Barratt, Herberton, whilst repairing his residence last week fell from the verandah and sustained a compound fracture of the left arm. Under the care of Dr. Jamieson he is making satisfactory progress.
