TEEBAR-BROOWEENA.
DEATH OF MR. A. J. EZZY.
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
August 20.
There passed away on Thursday night last, 18th. inst., in the Biggenden Hospital, one of the oldest and most highly respected residents of the Teebar district, in the person of Mr. Abraham John Ezzy, at the age of 70 years. The deceased had not been in the best of health for some months, and eventually, about nine weeks ago, he became an inmate of the Biggenden Hospital, where, despite the most careful and skilled treatment, he gradually sank, and passed away as stated. By his quiet unassuming disposition, and many sterling qualities, the late Mr. Ezzy had endeared himself to a very large circle of friends, who recognised in him one of Nature's gentlemen, and the genuine sympathy of all will be extended to his bereaved wife and family in the loss of a devoted husband and father. He leaves a grown-up family of nine, consisting of Percy John Roland (Boompa), Edward Charles (Tiaro), William John Eaton (Herberton), Onus Eaton (Townsville), Ivo Eaton (Boompa), Mrs. S. C. Corser (Biggenden), Mrs. C. A. Nichols ( Boompa), Mrs. L. C. Kessels (Pialba), and Miss Jessie Beatrice Ezzy (Boompa). Three members of his family, two sons and a daughter, predeceased him. There are also 25 grandchildren. His only brother, Thomas, is a station owner in Central Queensland and three sisters reside in New South Wales. Born at Maitland, N.S.W., in 1851, the late Mr. Ezzy came to Teebar in his youth. In 1872 he married the youngest daughter (one of twins) of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Eaton, of Teebar station, and lived at Neardie, in the Tiaro district, for a few years. He then returned to Teebar, and took over the management of the station, which position he held for twenty years, up to the death of Mr. Eaton in 1904. He then removed to 'The Downs' (originally part of the Teebar Estate), where he has resided ever since, engaged in grazing. In his younger days, Mr. Ezzy was a magnificent horseman, and at all times took the keenest interest in stock. Encased in a massive oak casket, heavily mounted in silver, the body was conveyed by rail on Friday from Biggenden to Brooweena, whence it was taken by Mr. G. S. Mant in his car to the local cemetery, adjoining St Mary's Church of England. A large number of cars, buggies and horsemen followed in procession. The bearers at the railway were Messrs. L. S. Smith, W. J. Payne, J. Harrison and F. A. Nahrung. On arrival at the church, the coffin was placed before the Altar, and Rev. James Hardingham conducted a most impressive service, in the presence of a large congregation. The coffin was then borne to the graveside, where the last sad rites were performed. The bearers at the church were Messrs. Ivo and Charles Ezzy (sons), C. A. Nichols, and S. C. Corser (sons-in-law), Claude, Arthur, and Bert Andrews (nephews), and F. C. Hughes . As the funeral procession passed from the church, the bell was solemnly tolled by Mr. T. Yerby. A large number of floral tributes of affection and sympathy were brought by sorrowing relatives and friends, as well as two beautiful immortelles, one from the family, the other from his nephews, the Andrews Brothers. The magnificent coffin was supplied by Mr. J. Ammenhauser.
