BOY BITTEN BY A SNAKE.

Yesterday, about 6.30 p.m., a young son of Mr. C. S. Twemlow, head teacher of Bundamba, whilst playing in one of the paddocks, near his father's residence, East Ipswich, was bitten by a black snake a little above one of his ankles. Mr. Twemlow very promptly cut out the bitten portion, and sucked the wound. Ligatures were applied to the limb. On the arrival of a medical gentleman, strychnine was injected. The boy is now out of danger, but the reason of his rapid recovery is no doubt in a great measure due to his father's prompt treatment.

CAR SMASH.
Teacher Killed.

ACCIDENT NEAR DALBY.
DALBY, August 15.

Mr. Charles Alfred Twemlow, head teacher of the Bell State School, was killed and Constable C. B. Cooke injured when the car in which they were travelling was wrecked on the Dalby-Bell road late last night.

Constable Cooke, who is stationed at Bell, was making a number of police calls in the district, and was accompanied by Mr. Twemlow. They were last seen at Kaimkillenbun about 8.15 p.m., and it is estimated that the accident must have happened about 9 p.m. Cooke was driving his own car, and has little recollection of the accident. He was crossing a culvert at Square Top, about 18 miles from Dalby, when he felt the car lurch, and it struck the guard posts. He remembered nothing more until he recovered some time later in the wrecked car, with his companion lying on the roadside. Cooke was injured, and was unable to go for assistance, but later a Mr. Roberts found the wreck. He took Cooke in his car and returned to Kaimkillenbun, and the Dalby ambulance and police were notified. The car was badly damaged.

A post-mortem examination revealed that the death of Mr. Twemlow was caused by internal injuries.
The deceased was 50 years of age, and is survived by his widow and a family of five sons. Mr. Twemlow, who was widely known, took an active interest in the public affairs of Bell. The funeral will leave the Dalby Presbyterian Church to-morrow.
