David Durie would be very interested if anyone can confirm the (northern) Irish dimension. The father of James, Thomas Dowrie, appears to have been born there in about 1801 and his father, James, about or before 1780 but he has not got any records to confirm this. The whole family appears to have been very poor and probably could not spare the cash to record their births, deaths etc.

Trevor OWENS writes to say that Charles MATTHEWS original name was Charles Mathews KITTO but that he stopped using KITTO at some time and eventually died in Launceston, Tasmania on Tuesday, 31 May 1938 and is buried in the Car Villa Cemetery. His wife, Ella, was born Thursday, 13 May 1875 and later died in Perth on Friday, 29 September 1950 and is buried in the Karrakatta Cemetery.
