Mr. John Seabrook, who died on Saturday at Abbotts Road, Mount Eden, aged 83 years, was a very old Auckland resident, who, after spending considerable time in Australia, returned to this city to spend the evening of his days. Deceased was a prominent member of Congregational Church, and highly respected by all who know him.

Mr. John Seabrook, who died at his residence at Abbotts Road, Mount Eden, on Saturday, was one who was associated with the early history of Auckland, despite the fact that he was not actively identified with public life. He was 83 years of age, and was born near London. He arrived in the Dominion in the year 1857, in the ship Kenilworth. He remained in the Auckland Province for several years, and then went to Queensland. After visiting England he returned to Queensland, and about five or six years ago he came back to Auckland.

ON October 3, at the Holy Trinity Church, Valley, Rev. S. Watkin solemnised the marriage of Mr. Leslie G. Babbidge (eldest son of the late Mr. J. G. Babbidge, and of Mrs. E. J. Babbidge, Valley), and Miss. Jean Gadsby (eldest daughter of the late Mr. F. A. Gadsby, and of Mrs. M. Gadsby, Hill End).

After an illness of only a few days, the death occurred in Winton of Mrs. M. Steedman on Tuesday night 10th August, at the age of 75 years. The late Mrs. Steedman had had dengue and pneumonia followed.
Deceased, who had been all her life in the Central-west, was born in Springsure, and spent her childhood and girlhood days in Blackall. Her marriage to Mr. Charles Steedman took place in Aramac in 1887. It was nearly 50 years ago when they moved to Longreach, in which district Mr. Steedman engaged in carrying, first from Barcaldine, and then terminus of the central line, and subsequently round the district, with several teams. After residing in Longreach for 35 years, Mr. and Mrs. Steedman moved to Winton where they took up permanent residence.
The late Mrs. Steedman was predeceased by her husband 2 years ago, and is survived by two sisters. Mrs. E. Egan (Aramac) and another in Anakie, a brother Mr. T. Wilkinson lives in Mt. Morgan. There are daughers, Mesdames J. Irwin (Winton), A. Wixon and G. Wager (Longreach), Ford and Phillips (Brisbane), and four sons, Messrs. Charles (Longreach), Eric and George (Winton) and Fred (Rockhampton). There are 43 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
The funeral moved from the Church of England after a service there by Rev. E. R. Woodrow on Thursday 12th. and he also officiated at the graveside in the Winton cemetery.

The late Mrs. M. Steedman, senr., whose death occurred in Winton on the 11th. instant at the age of 75½ years, was born at The Green, near Springsure, her maiden name being Marcellene Wilkinson. Her early years were spent at Tambo and Blackall. In 1887 she married the late Mr. Charles Steedman at Barcaldine; her husband predeceased her at Winton on October 16, 1935. The late Mrs. Steedman, after her marriage, spent a little of her time in Aramac, Barcaldine and Stonehenge, and many years in Longreach, arriving there long before there was any railway. The last 18 years, however, were spent in Winton. Deceased may well be included among the pioneers of the West, and on the news of her death becoming known, many telegrams, messages and floral tributes were received. The late Mrs. Steedman had five sons and five daughters, one son, William, dying in infancy. Those surviving are: Mrs. A. Wixon, Longreach; Mrs. R. Ford, Brisbane; Mrs. W. Phillips, Brisbane; Mrs. G. Wager, Longreach; Mrs. J. Irwin, Winton; Messrs. Charles Steedman, Longreach; George and Eric, Winton; Fred, Rockhampton. There are 43 grand-children and eight grand-children. Deceased also has two sisters and one brother living, viz., Mrs. E. Egan (Aramac), Mrs. Jefferies (Anakie) and Mr. Tom Wilkinson (Mt Morgan).
