and is researching this family and may have more information about Jane Joslin McDONALD and her family.
A james McDONALD died Tuesday, 14 October 1890 (wasn`t registered in Brisbane) and his parents were registered as William McDONALD and Jane ROSE. When his daughter, Eliza Ann married Alexander McLEOD, the marriage notice mentions the late James McDONALD and two of his other daughters have the name Rose in their christian names.
On her death certificate her father`s occupation was recorded as plasterer.
In 1871, Jane and six of her children, all girls, went to Jersey for a visit and returned to Brisbane in July 1871 on the Indus
. Her husband, James, did not travel with them.
McDONALD.-The Funeral of the late Mrs. JANE J. McDONALD, late of Manly, will leave the residence of her daughter, Mrs. E. Ross, Crn. Paris and Vulture streets, West End, THIS (Tuesday) AFTERNOON, at 3 o'clock, for the Toowong Cemetery.

Looking at the notes for the father, James McDONALD, the reader should keep in mind that these are just coinsidences.
From other researchers, including Cheryl CHATTIN, it appears that a couple of Jane`s daughters were born in Victoria. Two daughters, Alice Penrose and Bertha were born in Queesnalnd, and yet, the 1871 census for St Helier in Jersey Island in the English Channel, all of her daughters are stated as being born in Jersey.
Given the dates of birth for Alice and Bertha and the 1871 census being taken on the 2nd of April and the ship Indus arriving in Brisbane 21st July 1871, it would appear that the family, without James, came to Australia and back to Jersey and back to Australia. It is unknown when James came to Australia and where he was when Jane and her daughters travelled.
