Mabel's birth was illegitimate as her parents never married. Her father, Walter, lived in Mary Street in Brisbane at the time and was recorded as a fruiterer on the birth certificate while her mother lived in Arthur Street Newstead. Her mother Elizabeth registered the birth in writing on the 27th of October and four days later her father also registered the birth in writing. According to the death certificate the minister was Henry H. Barlow from the Salvation Army.
It is believed that Elizabeth and Walter Edward Ernest McDOUGALL never married as an index for a marriage has never been found, but the couple did produce one child named Mabel Lillian
. When Elizabeth was born her parents lived in Queen Street Brisbane. When she died she was known by the surname of  BRENNAN.

WILFUL DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTY.—Francis Ramsay, a butcher, summoned Alexander Harman for negligently and wilfully destroying 175lbs. of meat. Mr. Bunton appeared for the plaintiff, and Mr. Thynne for the defendant. It appeared that the defendant, who was in the employ of the plaintiff, had received notice to leave ; but previous to the expiration of the term of the notice, he placed the quantity of meat mentioned between two tanks, where it was discovered by the plaintiff. The meat went bad in consequence of the exposure. There waa a cross-summons for the recovery of £2 11s. 7d, wages due. This debt was admitted by Mr. Ramsay. The Bench ordered that it should be forfeited, to pay for the damage done. Mr. Bunton said that Mr. Ramsay's object in bringing the matter forward was to let it be known that such acts could not be committed with impunity, and requested that the amount of the penalty might be forwarded to the Brisbane Hospital.
