On Thursday last Mr. Thomas Charles Buckenham, a bridge carpenter by trade, residing at Churchill, died in the Ipswich Hospital of typhoid fever. The deceased, who was 33 years of age, was a son of the late Mr. William Buckenham, of Redbank, and brother of Mr. A. Buckenham, who has charge of the engines at the woollen factory. He leaves a widow and four young children, the eldest of whom is only eight years old. The funeral took place yesterday afternoon. Deceased had been in the Hospital for about a month, and was suffering from the worst type of the disease. Inquiries instituted as to the prevalance or otherwise of typhoid fever show that this season, so far, Ipswich and the immediate suburbs have been comparatively free from the scourge. Though there are at present 20 cases under treatment at the Hospital, the majority of them come from the country districts.

Thanks to John LISLE for much of the information about Stephen and his family. John has done a lot of research about the STEDMAN surname and other variants and his email address appears below. Witnesses to the marriage after banns by J Y Hughes, Curate, were Darby BRIEN and Mary WELSH
In the 1851 census for Greenwich the family was living at Greenwich Row, N. York Cottages, then in 1861 for Greenwich St. Alphege they were living at 2 Burling Gardens and in the 1871 census for Greenwich their address was 1 Plumridge Street.
When Stephen and Ann were married, he was described as a bachelor and Police Constable and Ann was a spinster.
In the 1851 census, the birth place for Ann was Ireland and in 1861 it was Northumberland Newcastle and then in 1871 it was Ireland, while in all three Stephen was recorded as being born in Tenterden in Kent.
