SNEYD.—In loving memory of Ernest V. W. Sneyd, 31st Batt., died 16th February, 1920.
Not one he loved was by his side
To hear his last faint sigh,
Or whisper just one loving word
Before he closed his eyes.
We never saw the pain he bore,
We never saw him die,
We only know he passed away,
And never said good-bye.
Inserted by his father and friends, Mrs. and Miss J. J. Anderson.

OBITUARY.
By the death of the late Mr. Lyndon Poingdestre which occurred in Brisbane on Thursday last, a very old resident of Queensland is removed. Arriving in Victoria with his parents at the age of eight years in the sailing ship Hydaspes, he was educated at the Church of England Grammar School in that colony. Later the family removed to Sydney where he entered the English, Scottish and Australian Bank, but severed his connection with that institution at the age of 20, when he made his way to Queensland and joined his brother-in-law, the late Mr. Clarendon Stuart, who was Assistant Government Surveyor at Rockhampton. Working under Mr. Stuart, he had much to do with the surveying of Townsville. He was also employed under the late Mr. A. C. Macmillan, a Government engineer for roads and bridges, who later married Mr. Poingdestre's youngest sister, Miss Laura Poingdestre. Being of a wandering nature, he had a varied experience in Queensland, being in turn miner, farmer, timber getter, and explorer. He also was for some time a station hand on the run of his friend, the late Mr. J. G. Macdonald, but evenlually joined the Native Police. The rough, hard life of this work seemed to suit him, for he remained in the service for the rest of his active career, and was a pensioner at the time of his death. Mr. Poingdestre was very fond of sport in his younger days, cricket and boxing being his favourite pastimes. Of recent years he took to bowls, and was a member of the South Brisbane Bowling Club at the time of his death, although he had passed his 84th year. He is survived by his widow and one sister, Mrs. Clarendon Stuart, of Sydney.
OBITUARY. (1924, July 29). The Brisbane Courier (Qld. : 1864 - 1933), p. 4. Link to TROVE
Sub-Inspector Poingdestre, received a nasty wound in the hand in an encounter with a blackfellow, the other day. He had heard of cattle depredations by the niggers about Miranda Downs, and went out to investigate. He found the remains of a large number of beasts, and came up with the spearers near a lagoon further on. He was on foot, and one giant blackfellow, who stood about 6 feet 2 inches high, went for him. The nigger drove a spear clean through Poingdestre's hand, and in the tussle which followed, the Sub-Inspector's rifle was broken. Poingdeptre managed to bring his revolver into play, however, and succeeded in throwing his man, after which a bullet in the brain effectually settled his hash.
