[[11405]] PETFIELD, Edward, parents John PETFIELD and Mary CLARK
MR. EDWARD PETFIELD.

Death claimed on October 19, after four years illness, the second oldest resident of that part of Paddington which now clusters around the tram sheds. The gentleman in question was Mr. Edward Petfield, whose fine physique and finer mental and moral characteristics were the admiration of all who knew him. He was born in Sheffield 68 years ago, and settled down with his wife and six children in Lower Terrace street, Paddington, 30 years ago. He was one of those who helped to extend the city westwards from what is still known as Cook's Hill, abutting on Enoggera terrace, at the terminus of the Red Hill tramway line. The funeral, which took place on Monday, was largely attended, and beautiful wreaths also testified to the esteem in which the deceased gentleman was held. The late Mr. Petfield at one time was treasurer, of Latrobe terrace Primitive Methodist Church. The Rev. Dr. Stewart, who conducted the funeral service, spoke feelingly of the loss which the community had sustained.

Mrs. M. Petfield.— The death occurred on May 14 of Mrs. Mary Petfield, widow of Mr. Edward Petfield, at her daughter's residence, Isedale Street, Wooloowin. Born in Sheffield in 1851, she came to Brisbane with her husband and family in the Duke of Sutherland in 1887, and settled in Paddington. At the recent jubilee celebrations of the church the president of the Methodist conference (Rev. A. E. Lapthorne) unveiled a leadlight window erected in her honour and in memory of her husband. She was an ardent worker for the Queen Alexandra Home for children, and to the children and staff became known as 'Grandma.' Her husband died 18 years ago, and she is survived by four sons, Messrs. John, M. (Wollongong), Albert E. (Wynnum), George, and Arthur (Paddington), and two daughters, Mesdames E. Adsett (Wooloowin) and W. Coles (Hill End).
