MARSTON In loving remembrance of our dear Mother, Susannah Marston, died 21st January, 1903.
To part with dear mother was a trial severe,
Although she is better in yonder than here,
Our loss is her gain, she's an angel above:
She drinks perfect bliss at the fountain of love,
O, may our dear mother be a link in the chain
That will bind us to heaven till we meet her again.
Inserted by her loving daughters.

Having Stolen Property. — William Naylor, aged 41, against whom there were seven convictions, was charged with having a white shirt in his possession which was reasonably supposed to be stolen. From the evidence it appeared Constable Coles met the defendant at the corner of Charlotte and Albert streets, and he noticed the defendant had something — which turned out to be a shirt — concealed under his coat. The constable asked him where he got the shirt, and the defendant replied a man who was sleeping in a cooperage in Eagle street. Constable Coles took the defendant to the cooperage, and there found a seaman named Charles Porter sleeping. Constable Coles then arrested both the men. This morning Porter denied that he had given the defendant the shirt, and he further stated that the shirt was not his property, The bench sentenced the defendant to three months imprisonment, as he failed to satisfy the bench as to how he became possessed of the shirt.

Larceny.-William Naylor was charged with having, on Sunday night, stolen an overcoat, valued at 35s., from the Grand Hotel. Sub-inspector Galbraith prosecuted. From the evidence it appears that a lodger observed Naylor come into the hall of the Grand Hotel, about a quarter-past 10 o'clock at night, and take an overcoat off the rack and move off towards the door. The lodger in question, however, called out to him to put the coat down, which he did, and ran out of the hotel. On information being given to Mr. Phillips he went in search of Naylor, whom he found standing near the A.S.N. Company's office, and subsequently gave him in charge to Constable Beety. The accused pleaded guilty, and Sub-inspector Galbraith informed the bench that Naylor had, after been taken in and fed by Mr. Phillips, endeavoured to steal some silver spoons. The bench sentenced the prisoner to six months' imprisonment with hard labour.

The prisoner appeared to be suffering greatly from the effects of drink, and was remanded for medical advice.
