OBITUARY
MRS. DINAH GANNON
When she died in Beaudesert Hospital on July 5, Mrs. Dinah Gannon was 88 years and 4 months of age. She was the widow of the late Mr. Charles Gannon, who predeceased her by 34 years.
The late lady, who was born at Mt. Flinders, near Ipswich, was the daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Henry Welsh, who at one time occupied the Tamborine Hotel, which was destroyed by fire a number of years ago. Later the family moved to Wongawallen, in the Coomera district, where the late lady met and married her husband seventy years ago. The late Mr. Gannon was a timber hauler, and when he moved with his wife and family to Beaudesert 54 years ago, he continued in that vocation. One of the early jobs he did was to haul all the timber for the construction of the Grand Hotel, which still stands.
The late Mrs. Gannon is survived by five daughters and two sons. The daughters are Mrs. E. Clayton (Moorooka), Mrs. J. White (Grafton), Mrs. E. Payne (Kangaroo Point), Mrs. J. Lee (Annerley), and Mrs. R. J. Fuller (Beaudesert), and the sons Jack (Goomeri) and Charles (Brisbane). There are many grand-children, and a number of great-grand-children.
The funeral, which, was directed by S. R. LeGrand & Son, moved from St. Thomas' Church of England, Beaudesert, to the South Brisbane cemetery, where the deceased lady was laid to rest alongside the remains of her husband. The burial service was read by the Rev. H. W. Griffiths, Rector of St. Thomas'.

The death of Mr. Henry Welch, sen., of Eagle Farm, is announced. Accompanied by his wife and two daughters, he arrived in Moreton Bay in November, 1855, and entered the service of the proprietors of Cropalton station, Logan district. Later he was engaged in pastoral work in the Dawson district, afterwards settling at Hemmant, where he built a home, purchased a 10-ton cutter, and entered the lime burning business, working for Messrs. Jas. Campbell and Sons. Afterwards he entered the timber-getting industry on his own account, and is said to have been the first man to send timber from the Logan for milling purposes. He supplied Pettigrew's sawmill. He afterwards engaged in farming, and also kept an hotel at Tambourine, besides running the coach between that place and Brisbane until the opening of the railway to Beaudesert. After 31 years he relinquished hotelkeeping and settled in Brisbane, residing in the first place in James-street, Valley, and then at Eagle Farm, where he resided with a granddaughter. He married twice, and is survived by 235 descendants, including grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
