Mrs. Eliza Kasulke, died at her home, Lowood, on Tuesday morning, about 6.30, at the age of 89 years. She had been confined to her room for 12 or 13 weeks. Prior to that she was very active, assisting with daily household duties. Even on the day before her death she talked of things of her younger days. She was always interested in current day topics. She was born at Ketley, Shropshire (England), on March 2, 1850, and she married Mr. James Smallwood at the age of 21 years. The marriage took place in England. In 1873, with her husband and infant daughter, she left England in the sailing boat, Ramsay, for Australia, the journey taking many months. They came out to Glamorgan Vale, where her husband died on January 27, 1888, leaving her with a family of two daughters and four sons. In 1892 she married Mr. Friedrich G. Kasulke, Glamorgan Vale. There was no family of the second marriage. She spent 65 years at Glamorgan Vale, on the same holding, being engaged in farming. Eleven years ago she disposed of her farm at Glamorgan Vale, and with her husband and eldest daughter, came to Lowood, having purchased a small property in the township. On November 18, 1931, her second husband died. She was a staunch member of the Methodist Church, and was constantly visited by Rev. C. P. Clarkson. Prior to the cortage leaving her late home in Walter-street, this morning, for the Fernvale Cemetery, Mr. Clarkson conducted a short service, and her favourite hymn, "Abide with Me," was sung. The service at the graveside also was conducted by Mr. Clarkson. The late Mrs. Kasulke leaves two daughters and three sons, Miss E. D. Smallwood and Mrs. E. C. Nunn, sen. (Lowood), Messrs. James R. (Glamorgan Vale), George H. (Fernvale), and Joseph C. Smallwood (Booval). There are eight grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. The pall bearers were her three sons, and three grandsons, Messrs. Allen and Norman Smallwood, and E. C. Nunn, jun.
