STEVENS.—On October 14 at Women's Intermediate Hospital, Brisbane, Ella, beloved wife of Robert Stevens, Ashgrove, Brisbane, and only daughter of Ernest Torkington, Charters Towers, sister to Jack, Ernie and Horry. Age 39 years.

Mr E. Torkington, Racecourse Road has received the sad news of the death of his only daughter Ella, in Brisbane on October 14, at the early age of 38 years. Deceased was born and educated at Charters Towers, and at one time represented this city as ladles' singles champion at tennis, at which sport she was proficient. On the death of her mother she left to take up business in partnership with her aunt, Miss Annie Lavery (one time owner of the Waverley and Towers Hotels) and later in 1930 married Mr. R. Stevens of Brisbane. Ella had a happy disposition, and her passing will be regretted by her many friends and relatives. Her three brothers, Jack, Ernie and Horry Torkington, are left to mourn their sad loss.

A quiet but pretty wedding was solemnised at St. Andrew's Church, South Brisbane, on the 1st January, when Mr. Arthur Petfield, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. E. Petfield, Paddington, was married to Miss Florence Molt, youngest daughter of Mr. S. Mott, South Brisbane.
