Isabella married Alexander NORRIS Thursday, 4 September 1873
HER 89th BIRTHDAY
FRIENDS and relatives from many parts of Brisbane and the outlying districts will attend the party to be held at the home of Mrs. H. G. Hall, in Dublin Street, Clayfield, this afternoon, to celebrate the 89th birthday of her mother, Mrs. Isabella Morris.
Born In Fifeshire (Scotland) the octogenarian, who was formerly Miss Isabella Kirk, came to Australia in the sailing ship Chatsworth, taking five months on the voyage.
On arrival in Queensland, in 1863, she settled with her family on Hazel Bank, a property at Logan Village, which is still managed by her nephew Mr. H. Kirk.
On September 4, 1873, she was married to Mr. Alexander Morris, of Bald Hills, who died last year at the age of 92. Since his death Mrs. Morris has lived with her daughter, Mrs. Hall, at Clayfield.
During the Great War Mrs. Morris knitted for three of her sons who saw active service, and now she is knitting for her grandson, who also is in the permanent forces. She also is an enthusiastic cook, taking as much pride in her jam-making as any newlywed.
Of her family of five sons and three daughters, four survive. These are Messrs. W. T. Morris (Bowen Hills), John M. Morris (Rockhampton), James M. Morris (Caloundra), and Mrs. Hall.
There are 22 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Late Mrs. Norris
Knitted Almost to the End
MRS. ISABELLA NORRIS, who collapsed and died from the heat at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. G. Hall, at Dublin Street, Clayfield, knitted practically to the end.
During the Great War she knitted for three of her sons, who were on active service. Recently she knitted for her grandsons, one of whom is in the permanent force, while others are with the militia.
She was also an expert at fancy work and despite her advanced age— on Saturday last she celebrated her 89th birthday— was apparently in good health until overcome by the heat wave.
The late Mrs. Norris, prior to her marriage was Miss Isabella Kirk. She came to Queensland with her family from Fifeshire, Scotland, in 1863. The family settled on Hazel Bank, a properly at Logan Village, she being the first white girl to set foot upon it. This properly is now owned by her nephew, Mr. H. Kirk.
The late Mrs. Norris' husband, Mr. Alexander Norris, of Bald Hills, died six months ago at the age of 92, and his widow had felt greatly the severance of their lengthy married life. She is survived by one daughter and three sons, twenty-two grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.

We Bundaberg Mail are indebted to the Police for the following particulars : A magisterial enquiry was held at Goodwood before Mr. R. Blissett, J.P., on Sunday afternoon, touching the death of Agnes West, aged 44 years, who died at her residence on that morning at 3 o'clock. From the evidence of one Macdonald, a servant in the employ of deceased, it would appear that Mrs. West was very restless during Saturday night, getting up and walking about the house ; at or near 3 a.m. she called the witness, who immediately got up, and saw at once that there was something the matter with her ; after a good deal of coaxing and promising not to tell Dr. Ward (who was a guest on the premises) he prevailed upon her to tell him what she bad taken; deceased told him that she had taken strychnine, and pointed to a tumbler on the table as the one from which she partook of the poison ; M'Donald called Dr. Ward instantly who prescribed the necessary remedies without effect, and deceased lingered in dreadful agony until 3 o'clock, when she died ; deceased had been suffering during the previous day, but witness thought it would wear off during the night. Dr. Ward's testimony was to the effect that, he was staying as a guest at Mr. West's ; he was awakened between 2 and 3 o'clock on Sunday morning by Macdonald, who informed him that Mrs. West had poisoned herself; he immediately got up aud prescribed a strong emetic which he endeavored to force down deceased's throat, who violently resisted, and he was unable to effectually give her a dose ; she commenced to convulse and shewed all the symptoms of having been poisoned with strychnine, and died at 3 a. m. An intelligent Kanaka servant gave corroborative evidence of the circumstances connected with deceased's demise. Dr. Thomas gave his evidence in town yesterday morning. He stated that he went to Goodwood on Sunday in company with Constable Tipping, where he found deceased lying dead; he made a post mortem examination of the body, and upon dissecting the bowels he found a quantity of strychnine in their contents, sufficient to cause death ; in his opinion deceased died from the effects of a dose of strychnine, some of which was found in the home of deceased. This was all the material evidence adduced at the enquiry. We may add that the remains of the deceased were interred in the general cemetery in the presence of her relations and friends.
