Before Messrs. A. Hasenkamp, S. Watson, and W. Field, JJ.P., at the Police Court this morning. Samuel Priddle Evans, a well-dressed man, who on Saturday was arrested on the Bundamba Racecourse on a warrant, was charged with wife desertion. The prisoner is well known in the district, having been for some time a grazier and timber-getter at Ripley. The case for the prosecution, as stated by Mr. W. H. Summerville, M.L.A., was that in July of last year the prisoner sold up his home and business, and left the country, and subsequently wrote to his wife from Chicago that he never intended to return to her, and that since then be had made no provision for her or the two children. The prisoner was remanded till to-morrow, morning to enable him to obtain legal assistance.
