Layton Robert Ashton, who was injured in a mining accident a month ago, died suddenly in the hospital, and his funeral to-day was largely attended.

Mr. Layton Robert Ashton (says Thursday's 'Townsville Star') succumbed at the Townsville Hospital between one and two o'clock this morning to injuries he received while working with hie brother at a silver mine at Ukalundi. Some four weeks ago he was badly smashed up, his leg being broken and thigh fractured. Deceased who was about 45 years of age, was a son of Mr Ashton, of West End.

DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST.
The death occurred at Milora on Monday night of one of our oldest colonists in the person of Mrs. Goan, the wife of Mr. James Goan, of that township. Mrs. Goan, who had attained the venerable age of 84 years, had spent over forty-six years of her life in Queensland, and for over twenty years she had resided at Milora. Notwithstanding her advanced years, the deceased was in full possession of her faculties, and enjoyed good health almost up to the time of her death, which is supposed to have been caused by the breaking of a blood vessel. She leaves a family of two daughters and four sons. The funeral, which was largely attended, took place at the Ipswich Cemetery to-day.

FUNERAL OF THE LATE MR. JAMES GOAN, SEN.
THE mortal remains of the late Mr. James Goan, sen., whose demise we briefly an nounced in our last issue, were conveyed to their last resting-place in the Ipswich Cemetery on Tuesday morning last, accompanied by numerous sorrowing friends and relatives. The Rev. Matthew Ryan, of St. Mary's Roman Catholic Church, officiated at the grave-side. Mr. Goan was a very old colonist, he having for a considerable time resided, before taking to farming life at Milora, at what was in the early days known as "The Ploughed Station," but is now called Silkstone. The deceased had ailed but slightly, notwithstanding his advanced age (95 years), until within a week or two of his death. He leaves behind him a large family of children, grandchildren, and great-grand children — most of whom are residents of Teviotville, Coulson, Boonah, Coochin, &c., and for whom much sympathy will be felt. His wife predeceased hin some 18 months or so ago.
