An obituary that appeared in the BM on Saturday, 13 November 1909 of an event that occured Monday, 10 November 1879.
From Dr. May we learn the particulars of a dreadful and fatal accident that happened at the Gregory on Monday last (10th), through which melancholy event Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Broom are mourning the death of a much-loved child. It appears that while the mother was absent from home on a visit to town on Monday, her daughter, Frances, aged three and a half years, by some mischance, went near the firplace, and her clothes catching alight she was fearfully burned. No grown person was at hand at the time, but as soon as the dreadful casualty was known, Dr. May was sent for. The poor little sufferer, however, had been called away to the better land before the doctor reached there, while the bereaved parents and relatives were overcome with grief at the great misfortune. The deceased was grandchild to Mr. Watson, of North Bundaberg, and Mrs. Starke, of Agnes Vale.
